Matariki - Reflections over the past 6 months

Over the past 6 months of being year seven, I have made improvements not only in learning areas but in outside areas. It’s like me transforming from a scared puppy to a powerful german shepherd.

This year I am doing road patrols. It isn’t my first year though I started two years ago. I really do enjoy helping little kids and big kids cross the road every mornings because it makes me feel happy that I am making sacrifices to help people or even save their lives.

When sports camp training started every Thursdays and Tuesday I didn’t think that there  was a point of going. I thought I would probably get told that I am not fit enough. I started to run a little bit faster after the first training and stepped up my pace with some of my friends. I also started waking up a 6:30 and walking to school at 7:15 in the cold. Now I am attending all practices. I have not missed one yet though. I can say to my family that I can do training and I can keep up with others. I hope that within the next few months I can run faster around the netball court.

In reading I have accelerated better than before! While reading I used to probably achieve easy goals but never big ones. When I did reading last year I got above the standard but I wanted to do better. I started to read the story that I would get and read it over and over again to find, select and retrieve information. I also started to listen more to the teacher and I used my imagination to picture something in a text. Now when I do reading I find it easier to find information. I moved from a 4B to a 4A. Now that I have accelerated in reading I can say to myself wow I might grow better than Petuana! . I am over the moon ecstatic about the results and I hope to do even better in next 6 months time

In writing I have not quite accelerated but I’m still happy with the results. During the year I achieved a score of 4P and this term I got 4B. Even though I am above standard I really wanted to get a 4A. I am now working harder and harder so I can get  a better score next term but I can definitely say to myself that I can improve.

Drawing- Pataka

As you can see I have created my own little pataka. In english pataka means storage house. It doesn't look exactly like a pataka but I tried my hardest to create it. I enjoyed making this pataka representing matariki and I would like to draw other things connecting to matariki.

Writing T2W7

WALHT: Show not tell emotions
Wednesday - Emotions: Highlanders vs Lions

The Lions faces were full of regret. They shut their eyes not wanting to open them. Their hands were on their heads with their shirt on their face not being able to control their frowns. Some of them bent down on their knees with tears flowing not wanting to believe the unwanted facts.  Cries were heard and screams were let out. From letting out quiet soft yells, it turned into deep louder groans.

The Highlanders had smiles bigger than earth. They jumped up and down hugging each other tightly. Some players ran like lightning around the field with their heads and arms held up high screaming their heads off. They pat each other's heads and shoulders while bursting happy smiles  to one another. Dances took place while laughter and happy screams were heard making echoes travel far away.

Visualisation - Reading T2W7

WALHT: Visualise when we read.
The painting was a field of flowers, with deep and rich blues and yellows atop vibrant green stems that seemed to beckon you to reach right in and pick them.

We are learning how to visualise when we read. For our learning I used my imagination to draw a picture of what I thought of the story.I was able to use inferences from the text to give me ideas and information that the text did not give.I was also able to talk to my friend about what I pictured in my head from the story. I found it a lot easier when I got to understand it more and I enjoyed drawing the picture. I am able to use my senses to give me even more ideas. I would like to learn more about visualising and I would like to challenge myself with harder texts next time.

Samoan Language Week - Samoan Sasa

Last week was Samoan Language Week. We decided that we would for our usual dance sessions, we would attempt to do the Samoan Sasa. As I tried personally I did not find it easy. It had a very fast beat which made me lose track. Although the ups and downs I really enjoyed it and would like to do it again next year.

Poem - Volleyball

The ball digged the grass. The net cheered as the ball flew in the air. The ball screamed through the air. The ball stomped past the line. The net caught the ball. The ball hit the ground. By Alicia,Mya and Saimua

Maori Migration

Today Ms.Maude taught us how the Maori found New Zealand and how they would get their food. Many years ago a Maori man named Kupe traveled on his waka. During his traveling he discovered an island so he went back to his village to tell his men to make wakas in order for them to go to that island to live there. They used seven wakas to get to the island. The names were Aotea,Tainui,Te Arawa, Tokomoru,Kurahaupo,Takitimu and Mataatua. After they went to that island it became the north island which is part of Aotearoa. To get their food they rubbed their hands against a piece of flax and rubbed it until it formed a rope. They would then wrap it around a rock and when a bird came they would swing it and the rock would hit the bird killing it.

Apple Turnover

WALHT: Use measurement to make apple turnover.
Pastry
Apples

Estimate
Sultanas
Sugar

To make the apple turnover we first measured two pieces of apples estimated it of 2 grams then chopped them into fine pieces. We then took a piece of pastry and also measured it and it was 4 grams. After that we filled it with our apples, sultanas and sugar then folded it like a samosa, measuring it after we drizzled milker over the top. When I measured the pre-baked apple turnover, it measured 4 grams. When our teacher measured the post-baked  turnover it weighed 80g. Altogether it was 160g

Why I would want to be Suga - Writing T2W2

WALHT: Write an explanation

If I could be someone I would be Suga

First of all I would like to be Suga from Bangtansonyeondan (BTS). He is from Daegu,South Korea. He has a very funny personality and he is very humble. Suga has many special talents such as singing and rapping. His members have made it to the 2017 nominees for the top social artist in the Billboard Music Awards. His goal for 2017 is to win the top social artist this year and I am very happy and proud that they have now made it to the nominees.

My favourite thing about Suga is his personality. From being appreciative of his fans to being a big help to his friends. He pays major respect towards the South Korean government and he tries his hardest to protect his music and his members. He shows appreciation multiple times to his friends and family and supports them throughout their journeys. He has a massive amount of confidence during his concerts and enjoys performing. His personality is what I look up to and the kind of attitude I want to have.

Suga is  multi skilled. Before his debut he used to play basketball and won plenty of games during his high school days. He is very skilled when it comes to decorating cakes and enjoys teaching his members how to get precise effects on cakes. He’s basically the dad of the group because he can fix anything like doorknobs and light bulbs. He studied at Global Cyber University.

Suga’s ambition was to try and reach the top of the Kpop idols charts with his members. He is very passionate about music, songwriting and record producing. He has major goals in his life just like me. I  definitely want to be as talented and appreciative as Suga.

Outcomes - Healthy options - Maths T2W2

WALHT: Work out the outcomes

When we went on our trip on Tuesday Aut provided a healthy lunch for the students. There was a variety of options. We used this information in a maths lesson and we had to work out the number of outcomes. After we added the meat we used the salad. When I counted the outcomes there were six. With the salads there were 24 outcomes. Overall I found this very easy and I would do this again

Alicia Opinion:Sideswipe - NZ Herald Sideswipe

Screenshot 2017-05-08 at 14.14.13.png

As seen, people are hiring people that can work without their cell phone or social media.

Nearly everybody has a phone these days and I will say that it is true that we all find it hard to stay off social media. My mum works for a very important company called NZ Blood. Because it is very important she is only allowed to use her cell phone when she is on her break. She doesn’t complain about it though. If I were to have a similar job when I grow up, I would find it hard for the first time because I wouldn’t be used to it. I do think that it is a good idea at the end of the day because it will keep you focused in your work so you can finish it in time. I think that I would give this work a try.

Evil Twin

Screenshot 2017-05-05 at 12.09.43.png
WALHT: Use our creative skills to write an interesting narrative.

                                               Evil Twin
“Good morning and welcome back to term two at Glen Innes School,” greeted Mr.Montgomery.
“Now that I have marked everyone present, let’s go out for fitness!”
As I was walked like  a slug, I began to talk with my evil twin sister.
“You won’t do anything bad today alright?” I demanded strictly.
“Whatever!” said Felicia with her dark gothic eyes.
I turned around to remind Felicia we had to walk home after school but she suddenly disappeared. I searched around the school for her when I found her pointing a lighter to the wall.
“Don't move,” she immediately said
. I was worried and shocked. . My evil sister with her dracula teeth  was about to destroy Glen Innes School.

I persuaded Felicia to put down the lighter in the best way possible. I told her that she doesn’t have to do it but she took it like I was lying to her so she could go to jail. I told myself that I have no other choice but to snatch it off her but she aggressively pushed me to the ground giving me no chance of getting the lighter. I got up trying to think of something else but I couldn’t think of anything to save her or the school. As I was about to try and talk to her again, I felt my phone that is only used for emergencies in my back pocket. I turned around and texted Mr.Montgomery. I told him to come to the office asap!  She saw him and ran out of the fire exit.
“We have to go get her,” I said.
So while Mr.Montgomery went out of the corridor door, I went after my evil twin through the fire exit.

As I was running I had to stop for a breath. As I composed myself I heard suddenly loud footsteps coming from behind me. I turned around and there was Felicia.
“Please, Felicia  give me the lighter,” I said.
I told her that if she gave me the lighter then I would not mention it ever again.”
“Ok I will give you the lighter,” said Felicia.
When she handed me the lighter we headed back to the office. We sat down and started talking which made her feel happy internally.
“Thank you for giving the lighter Felicia,” I said kindly.

After that day we started to communicate more and I started to help her with her school work. I am very happy that my not so evil twin sister and I are know really good friends.

Walt: assign probabilities to simple events using fractions and percentages.

Today I was learning to assign probabilities to a game played with 2 10 sided dice. I played the game with my friend, Mya. We alternated rolling the dice. We rolled the dice 20 times and we recorded our score in the outcomes column. From the 20 attempts, only twice we managed to get multiples of 6. The probability as a simple fraction is 2/20 and as a percentage it is 10%. Since we worked on similar games this week I now have a better understanding of assigning probabilities. Next time I would like to learn how to find a prime number while assigning probabilities.

Mrs.Manu

Today is our last day with Mrs.Manu as seen. She was my favorite teacher. She was someone I could talk to and laugh to because her amount of joyfulness that she held inside. I will definitely miss her coming to work as a full time teacher at Glen Innes School. I got emotional when she told Room 8 her goodbyes but we are going to have an assembly at 12:30 today. I will miss you alot everyday Mrs.Manu.
