The picture I have chosen is a drawing of an umbrella protecting a Kiwi from the rain. I think that this can definitely remind people about New Zealand. The type of art will be silhouette. It will have most of the colours of the rainbow. I am very excited to try this art because it is one type of artwork I have not tried before. The colour of the umbrella and the Kiwi will be black. Hopefully when I am finished this art, the colours will stand out more than the planning.
I am a Year 8 student at Glen Innes School in Auckland, New Zealand. I am in Room 7 and my teacher is Mrs Tu'akoi.

Prototec - Maths T4W3
Today I sat a prototec test. My stage was stage 7 and instead of sheet, I used time. As you can see my results were 80%. I accidently forgot to take a screenshot on what I got wrong. I can say though that I got a few wrong in square roots and bits were wrong in percentages. By the end of this year I want to achieve 100% so I can move to the next level. Doing this also expanded my learning in basic facts.

Chemical Change - Fire
T4W3 : MONDAY
Chemical Change - Fire
Ask a question
What will happen if you combine the paper and the matches?
|
Construct a hypothesis( make a guess)
I think that the paper will burn.
|
Conduct the experiment
|
Record your observations and data: Change of colour, release of gas,
|
Analyse information
|
Report results
Today we conducted an experiment on paper and matches. A chemical change is something that is irreversible after being formed. Before conducting the experiment, we needed to complete the scientific method which is..
I made a guess that the paper would burn. While the experiment was held, I noticed…
As soon as the newspaper was burnt, there was a sudden change in the formula of the paper. It transformed into ashes. The temperature changed by quite a mile and there was clearly a release of gas. I believe this helped expand my knowledge in chemical change. I would also like to try more experiments to see how they are unable to be reversed.

La Tomatina and Bullfightiing Venn Diagrams
Last week Harrison and I completed the similarities and differences of La Tomatina and Bullfighting. Through doing this I learnt about other celebrations around the world. I enjoyed researching about these celebrations and hope to do it again.

Chemical changes through baking - T4W2 Thurday
Walht: Write a paragraph on chemical change.
Baking Pikelets to see Chemical Changes. First of all a Chemical change is a result of a new substance in which can not be reversed. Before we discover chemical change, we needed to complete the scientific method. Asking a question and making an assumption. Combined ingredients help chemical changes but through baking, it is heat. It is simply like applying milk to the dry ingredients ( Flour, Sugar, Baking Soda e.t.c.) It becomes liquid. While cooking the pancakes you will observe the chemical changes when…
- Release of gas (Bubbles form)
- Colour change ( Golden brown)
- Temperature change
Once you know when your pancakes are finished through chemical change, you can enjoy them. Delicious!

Comparing Diwali with the Kings Brithday - Reading T4W2
Walt: Compare and contrast 2 or 3 celebrations ( Diwali with a celebration from your culture.)
This week I made a comparison between Diwali and a festival from my culture which is Tonga. The middle oval contained the similarities between the two and the sides were the differences. I enjoyed discovering the differences. Overall I think I would do this again.

How I want to be remembered.
How I want to be remembered
How do I want to be remembered? I am currently a year seven student attending Glen Innes School. Being remembered is like leaving a legacy behind for others to follow. Instead of leaving a bad legacy at school I want to leave an inspiring and special one. To make a good start to my legacy I definitely need to think about what is happening now than in the future.
First of all, I would like to be remembered as an obedient student. Somebody who wouldn’t refuse to do any work not only in academic areas, but also in physical education. At times I have heard my teachers from year three compliment me on how good my attitude towards my learning is. I am hoping that my time being an obedient student lasts until my time at Glen Innes School has been completed.
Secondly, I want to leave a good status with my teacher. Being remembered as a kind peer. Someone who would help her friends during their hard times. At times I have learnt that being a good friend is simple. Being a good friend really does have an affect on my working time. I don't want to be that student who would always distract her friend from doing her work. Even when there is someone hurt that isn’t my friend, I want to show compassion towards them.
The most important thing I want to achieve is to have my parents be proud of me. Everybody wants their parents to be proud of themselves, right? Well I certainly want to make it happen! I usually like to have a good impression when it is meet the teacher. Having a good impression around my parents help them continue supporting my education and being proud of where I am at.
When I round all of my goals together, I begin to realise that if I achieve them I will be successful. I have high hopes that I will become successful one day. I can’t wait.
😄 Happy Diwali!!
Walht: Understand celebrations around the world.
This week is a week long celebration called Diwali. Diwali is a Hindu celebration called the festival of lights. It is the biggest celebration in the world. Countries like India and Pakistan
have it as an official holiday. There are many myths shared across the world on Diwali.
To celebrate this festival Hindus like to decorate their homes with coloured lights. To accentuate the light, they light candles and lay them inside and outside their homes. Before decorating, they clean their homes. According to a myth it says the Gods will only enter if it is clean. In the evening they like to enjoy the sight of fireworks in the air. In a video it showed a family placing pictures of the God, Lakshmi. They pray to become wealthy and to live without struggles. Most people go to the beach to light them. Both men and women go shopping to buy new clothing. Girls like to buy gold because it is part of their outfit.
To welcome visitors and so believed Gods, people create Rangoli patterns. You could either use coloured powder or broken rice. When the Rangoli pattern is completed it looks amazing with all the vibrant colours used. When making a Rangoli pattern on cardboard, glue is used to prevent the powder or rice from separating. Today room eight and I drew Rangoli patterns with chalk. There were some very bold and pretty patterns that caught my attention. I think that most of us did an outstanding job.
Overall learning about Diwali helped me learn that there are way more celebrations instead of the popular ones like Christmas e.t.c. It definitely helped expand my knowledge with outside of my culture celebrations. I believe that people should be more aware of the celebrations in the world.

Time Vocabulary - Maths T4W1
This morning for maths we wrote a vocab of words related to time. I worked together with my group to find other words to add onto our piece of paper. After that we all shared our words onto one piece of paper and copied from it. These are a majority of the words written. I enjoyed doing this because it helped expand my vocabulary in time. I think that in the future I can see my class and I creating more word clouds. To create this word cloud the link will be here if you would like to try it out.
