Badminton

Today was the last day of our badminton sessions with coach Kylie.I learnt some brilliant
techniques like the forehand grip. You are supposed to put your thumb down like you are
shaking someone's hand. You also put your right leg in front of your left leg. The backhand
grip is similar to the forehand grip but you just need to put your thumb up and put your racket in front of you. Oh I forgot to tell you that if you don't feel comfortable with your right leg then you can just swap over to your left leg. Overall I really enjoyed the badminton sessions and
I hope you come back to Glen Innes school in the future Kylie! Thank you for teaching us badminton!

ASB

Today I learnt how to be  wise with your money through a game.I learnt that you have to make
important decisions with your money and not to overspend. I also learnt about insurance so if anything wrong happens for example if someone stole all of your belongings including your wallet and passport, you will have to repurchase the important things that got stolen like your passport so you will have to go through the same process again. Another important thing that
I learnt was if you decide to borrow money from the bank with your credit card, you will have to owe back what you took from the bank. Also if you don't pay back the money when it is due you will have to pay extra money and interest. Overall I learnt to earn, spend and save. I definitely think that this will help me in the future so that I don't struggle.

Tech learning this week

Today we went to tech and I went to Mr.Grundy’s class. We had to measure and
then darken the lines of our creations on a piece of paper. We had to equalize the joints
and then cut the wood. Before we cut our pieces of wood we learnt how to cut it so we
don’t cut ourselves. Most of us started cutting early while some of us did not have any time.
Ms.Ferguson then taught us for the last ten minutes because Mr.Grundy had to leave for an \
appointment. This weeks lesson and activity was pretty fun!

Omaru Creek

                                      Omaru Creek

There was a large amount of fat, sewage and clogged up rubbish found in the Omaru
Creek. This meant that an urgent call had to be made to one of the local maintenance groups in our area. The local Creek was and is still in poor condition.

The maintenance team cleaned the surroundings of the Creek and then cleaned inside. They ended up pulling a huge piece of mattress springs from the dirty water and cleaned the rubbish that clogged  the pipes. They then flushed the creek with fresh water and tested the water-quality  for five days. It is all of our responsibility to make sure our creek stays healthy.
Our community could help by following some of these steps: if you are deep frying chips, wait for the fat to cool down and harden and then put it in your rubbish bin. That way it reduces the chance of affecting the homes in your area and it also reduces the chance of you having to pay hundreds of dollars for  the damage. You can also rather put rubbish in the bin than in the toilet or outside. This way our creek will not have to always be cleaned.

My class and I as part of the community of Glen Innes will help clean the dirty rubbish that surrounds the creek, remove the aqua and dry weeds and get rid of papers and anything that harms the pipes in our community. Hopefully in 6 weeks time I will look
back at these pictures and be proud of what the community of Glen Innes has achieved.

The 3 keywords for this year are PACE, ACCELERATION and CONSOLIDATION. For the first basic facts assessment  I got 39 out of 40 on stage 6 and in week 3 I got 35 out of 40 on stage 7 .I think this is not  very good acceleration and I don't think I have stepped up the pace. For the next basic facts hope to get 40 out of 40 at stage 7  I will consolidate on my factors and my square roots.

Water Colour Painting

16 Feb 2017 09:07:59.jpg

This is my watercolour painting that we did with Mr.Ramkolowan.
The techniques were
  • Water on Water (Applying water to a piece of paper)
  • Water on dry     (Applying watercolour paint to the dry paper)
  • Dry on water     (Applying more watercolour to the dry watercolour paper)

These are the three techniques that we learnt but there are much more.
