My speech

Why are we cutting and burning down our earthly and harmless trees?
I know!  people are cutting down trees to make money.

Hello my name is Alicia and I am going to convince you to save our earthly trees.

I bet you most people probably can’t care less about trees. They hardly give a thing on what they may bring in the future. But here's the question Do you know much about trees?Well let me tell you trees are amazing.

They give us oxygen that we breathe on.But what do we give back to those trees in return? We burned and cut them down. Why should trees be helping us to stay alive when all we are doing is cutting them down?

Without trees we would not be around living these days. You see trees give us medicene that cures our sicknesses. They also provide fruit so that we dont starve to death.Just think about it.Do you ever wonder why we are breathing and why we are living on earth today?Well if you do this is because trees!
People might think trees are useless and that blocks their view of something more beautiful.
Well anyways,
For example has anyone heard of the sahara desert?Well that desert used to be a beautiful rain forest filled with plenty of healthy animals and lots of water until chop chop cut cut there the trees went waiting to be demolished with big shredder machines.
Now it is called the Sahara desert because of this.

Would you like this to happen to another forest for example the amazon rain forest?

Well then STOP cutting and burning down trees and stand up for our earthly environment!

RWC Writing

Name: Alicia 02 November 2015

Recount Writing:  Our Rugby World Cup Supporters Shirts.

Title:The day we were surprised with All Blacks T Shirts!

On Thursday 29th of October Year 5 and 6 children went to the Library and waited for two Women from ASB to come.

When they arrived they introduced themselves.Their names were Donna and Sobahn. When they came through the door We saw a man with a box full of All Blacks t shirts!  We were so surprised when we saw the T shirts and could not wait to try them on!  Mr Ramkolowan picked the smallest kids first and saved the bigger ones for last. Most of the kids could fit it but some of them could not .After that we gathered together and took a nice big photo so the cameraman could post it on a website. It was a very fun day and I hope to see them again. He took another one with the boys doing the haka and the girls doing a pukana. Then he did one of the girls smiling.

On Friday it was black out friday So everyone had to wear black. The reason why we had to wear black was because we were supposed to support the All blacks and so they could win.Limi from room9 made a chant so the rest of  us were filmed  by Mr Ramkolowan  doing the big chant. In the Afternoon we walked around G.I center and sang that chant really  loud so that people could hear us.We came a cross lots of people that were cheering us on while we were walking. After we arrived back at school we got our bags and went home.

On Sunday I woke up at 5 am to watch the game which was All blacks vs Australia. As I was watching the game I felt very anxious because Aussie was catching up to the All Blacks. But somehow All Blacks were back on track and won the game by 34 - 17.I was sooo happy that I jumped up and down ! After the game was over we watched how Australia were awarded with silver medals for being runners up for the rugby world cup 2015.I felt a little bad for them but I got over it.then last but not least the All blacks were awarded their very own gold medals for becoming the champions of the rugby world cup 2015!Then they were given the webb ellis cup for four whole years!I can not wait for the All blacks to defeat another team in the next four years!

The end.

My Character description

As I turned around the steep path I saw the man…...

He looked terrifying in many ways. His blue as the sea  torn shirt following with holy pants made me take notice that he lived in the homeless. As he walked past me ,the smell of cannabis and tobacco made me already think that this man wasn’t  very good. The smell strangled me telling my lungs that they could not take the smell any longer. He gave a evil glare at me and made my heart pound very fast as if I was not going to go home safe.Once he left the dairy,  he left his dirty odour making people very  aware.

There was something strange  about this man that gave me the creeps.
I followed him past the flash  schools and  shops making sure that he did not escape. I had to do something about it. I thought fast. Then I saw a very long  rope that I thought would be good to catch this man with at the docks nearby. I heaved it and leapt at the man, pulling the rope tight around his small as a rat  body.
Frightened and suspicious, the people on the docks ran quickly to their little village  homes.
They closed their curtains not wanting to notice me and this man in between something very bad.But when I looked at his ugly  face it just seemed to be this little dwarf homeless man trying to ask for spare change and empty purses.I got this completely wrong and I felt guilty.

‘Sorry’ I said to the man in guilt.I made a complete fool of myself because why would I do this without a reason?I obviously don’t why I would do this to such an innocent man !I should have minded my own business instead of poking my nose into other people's business!

NZ Fern Tree

About the story:
This story is clearly about NZ Native trees such as the Silver fern tree. One of my favourite facts in  the book is that there are about twelve thousand fern species worldwide, and around 200 species in NZ! Isn't that cool?! Well let me tell you much more on the next page….

Facts about the Silver fern tree:
1.About half of all NZ ferns are endemic.

2.Ferns consist of leaves called fronds,a rhizome, and roots.

3. The Fern life cycle consists on two stages.
The sporophyte and the gametophyte.

4.  Ferns are vascular plants-they posses xylem and phloem.

5. The black tree Fern is NZ’s tallest tree Fern.

6. The largest ground fern in NZ is the king Fern.

The reason why I liked the book:

The reason why I like this book is because the tree is not just because It's my favourite tree,It is also from where I come from:New Zealand!

Ferns in the Future:

I think Ferns will succeed in the future even when I’m not around!Thank you for looking at my google presentation!

I'm learning Equivalent fractions

We have been learning about equivalent fractions. We made fractions from shapes. Photographed it and inserted it into our document. I learnt that 4/8 = 1/2 ,2/4  = 1/2, 2/8 = 1/4 and 2/6 = 1/3.
It was fun making equivalent fractions with shapes because we got to use different

“Hurry up ”Said Dad.”The taxi will be here any minute”.

Mum was busy making herself look fancy with a rose red lipstick. while I was getting ready by putting on my dress and shoes.”Alicia hurry up” Said mum angrily .”Alrighty then ” I said.I was busy  brushing my teeth and doing my hair after I had a shower at the same time.I ran down the stairs and headed out the door rushing to the taxi that had pulled up in front of our 2 story home. Dad was already seated in  the taxi with my mum and our little sister.I still had to lock the doors before I could get to the taxi because our family had already been burgled more than once. When I went to the taxi I brought my hair spray and perfume so I could put it on.

When we arrived we sat in the ceremony and waited until the bride my aunt walked in the doors with this lovely pearl white dress.Everybody stood up and looked at her.She walked down the aisle with her father. When they did their vows the ringbear gave the  rings they put it on each other and then the left to go to the reception for the wedding. When we got their 2 minutes later we sat on the beautiful chairs that had been decorated.Delicious food had been handed out and many refreshments had been handed out as well.My nanny rawiri and my nanny rose came with my koro peter. When it got later we went on the dance floor and danced to lots of songs. Then my uncle nick arrived. The bride and the groom went on the dance floor and started to dance on it.When they went in the middle it suddenly glowed on them.It was very romantic .

Later on dinner was served while speeches were on.Half of my aunt's family had gone up and said a speech like her dad,mum and sister. On my uncle’s side it was his aunt's,his mum and his sister my mum. When the speeches were over it was dessert and then we went outside and looked at fireworks. It was amazing.

When it was all over we left to go home and then we went to bed so we could have a early morning.I felt really happy for my uncle and aunty. It was a really good night.

Introduction:

During the night I had a dream that my family and I went to a game of Netball in Glen Eden.

paragraph1.

One night I had a dream that my family and I went to a game of Netball. When we arrived
we saw two Netball hoops,a scoreboard,Cheerleaders and the two teams that were competing against
each other. The two teams were the Silver ferns and the other team was the Australian kangaroos.
As soon as we walked in we smelt hot dogs and mouth watering burgers. My dad went to
buy 6 big burgers and 6 hot dogs so that we could get one of each.He also bought 6 cold drinks
because it was an inside game and when it is crowded it gets really hot .As soon as the game
started we went to find our seats so that we could eat.The team we supported was of course the
silver ferns because they are so inspiring and they are from our country New Zealand. To support
them more we wore their colours black and white and we also held up flags. It was really fun.

paragraph2.

A couple of hours later the Australian kangaroos were beating the Silver Ferns and scored heaps of goals but somehow the
Silver ferns caught up.The audience was cheering so hard that they almost lost their voices.
When we were watching the game my little sister Neomi needed to go to the toilet.Nobody wanted to take her because they wanted watch the game instead of missing it.That was why I myself had to take her.It did not really matter if I missed it because it would always have a repeat on tv .Once I got back it was half way untill it was over.I sat down with Neomi
and tried to enjoy myself until it was over. When It was nearly over I was happy because I
couldn’t try to enjoy myself.I was just thinking of going home and sleeping.

conclusion.

When the game was over we heard that the Silver Ferns won and we cheered really loud.
After that we got out of the big stadium and drove all the way back home. When we left I felt
Happy and also very tired. When we got Home i fell asleep but that was when In just woke up
and noticed that it was just a dream and said ‘oh’’it was just a dream’ and then my mum said ‘Get ready Alicia for school’!

ASB money talks

After morning tea, Tessa, from ASB came to talk to us about being
smart with money.

First Tessa talked to us about some things that you could do to
possibly earn money. One of the things that you could do  would be
doing chores but not everyone earns money maybe from their parents
or relatives. One of the other things that you could do to earn money
would also be selling stuff that can’t really fit you so you can maybe have a garage sale because that would be really handy to earn money! One of the best things that you could do to earn money is babysit someone thats parents have
maybe gone on a holiday. It is best to do it when you are strictly  14 years
of age and over.

Next Tessa chose three volunteers who were Limi, Gordon and Mya  to hold a few or more pieces of paper that was laminated and told them to flip it when she was ready . When they flipped it on both gordon and limi got the same total
of $4680 but Mya got $2340 because limi and gordon saved $15 each week for six whole years until Mya started save each week and she saved for three years
in total. The changes between Mya,gordon and limi were that gordon saved in a bank but limi and mya saved their money in their old sock draw called the money box . The thing that changes everything is that Tessa told us that if you save up your precious money in a bank you get a little bit more money from the
bank for free which is called an interest. gordon had received 3% interest but did limi and mya get an interest? NO! they got 0% of interest because they obviously saved up in their money box .  When they finished seeing how much money they had they would see  what cars that they would be able to afford.
they were all pretty flash . Mya’s car was pretty old fashion but it was all
right even though she decided to save the money instead of spending
it. Limi and gordons cars were so cool both of them were yellow and red.
The good news was that they bought it but not for real!

After That Tessa talked to us about two cards. EFTPOS and credit card.
she told us that there were two differences between an eftpos card
and a credit card. The two differences was that when you have an eftpos card you are spending your money whereas if you have a credit card you are borrowing
the banks money but don’t forget that if you are using a credit card you have to make sure that you pay the exact same amount of money that you used from the bank or else they will charge you  a lot  more money than usual.

She also taught us a smart way of earning money. You can use a chant so when your going past the dairy or shop you can just sing a song like this.
“when you earn some money what do you do? you spend some on you and save some too”!

That was a cool song but then Tessa had to go to room 10. we said our goodbyes and then we went back to doing our normal work.
It was cool because we got a free wristband.

Thank-you ASB

Alicia

Swimming

Screenshot 2015-03-09 at 11.00.44.png

On Friday the 6 of march it was the last day of our swimming coaching with the lovely instructors

Before room9 went in the pool , they had to  get changed into their togs and have a short rinse .
After that they sat in a line until olivia had called them to go to their groups with the instructors Julie and Duncan. When they got in the pool they swam a few laps if they could and then they had to go on the side of the pool and wait for another turn. Once everybody had a turn of freestyle they started to do as many backstroke laps as they could and then go back to the side of the pool once more. Some of the rules for swimming was that they had to have their hands straight behind our ears just like a rocket, make sure you always keep your hands on the board if you are practising freestyle or anything that you do with a swimming board. It depends whether you can do it in the water with a board or not. We also learnt that you shouldn't cheat by standing up to take a breath in freestyle or even breaststroke and many other swimming. It was boring because at the end of the season of swimming instructors being here room9 got to have FREE time!! P.S because I wasn't swimming!
