After morning tea, Tessa, from ASB came to talk to us about being
smart with money.
First Tessa talked to us about some things that you could do to
possibly earn money. One of the things that you could do would be
doing chores but not everyone earns money maybe from their parents
or relatives. One of the other things that you could do to earn money
would also be selling stuff that can’t really fit you so you can maybe have a garage sale because that would be really handy to earn money! One of the best things that you could do to earn money is babysit someone thats parents have
maybe gone on a holiday. It is best to do it when you are strictly 14 years
of age and over.
Next Tessa chose three volunteers who were Limi, Gordon and Mya to hold a few or more pieces of paper that was laminated and told them to flip it when she was ready . When they flipped it on both gordon and limi got the same total
of $4680 but Mya got $2340 because limi and gordon saved $15 each week for six whole years until Mya started save each week and she saved for three years
in total. The changes between Mya,gordon and limi were that gordon saved in a bank but limi and mya saved their money in their old sock draw called the money box . The thing that changes everything is that Tessa told us that if you save up your precious money in a bank you get a little bit more money from the
bank for free which is called an interest. gordon had received 3% interest but did limi and mya get an interest? NO! they got 0% of interest because they obviously saved up in their money box . When they finished seeing how much money they had they would see what cars that they would be able to afford.
they were all pretty flash . Mya’s car was pretty old fashion but it was all
right even though she decided to save the money instead of spending
it. Limi and gordons cars were so cool both of them were yellow and red.
The good news was that they bought it but not for real!
After That Tessa talked to us about two cards. EFTPOS and credit card.
she told us that there were two differences between an eftpos card
and a credit card. The two differences was that when you have an eftpos card you are spending your money whereas if you have a credit card you are borrowing
the banks money but don’t forget that if you are using a credit card you have to make sure that you pay the exact same amount of money that you used from the bank or else they will charge you a lot more money than usual.
She also taught us a smart way of earning money. You can use a chant so when your going past the dairy or shop you can just sing a song like this.
“when you earn some money what do you do? you spend some on you and save some too”!
That was a cool song but then Tessa had to go to room 10. we said our goodbyes and then we went back to doing our normal work.
It was cool because we got a free wristband.
Thank-you ASB
